Why does the light on my ceiling fan work, but not the fan itself?
Sam R asked:
In installing my new ceiling fan, I hooked the black and the blue wires from the fan to the black wire from the ceiling box. I then hooked the white to white, and mounted the fan to the ceiling. I now have operating lights, but no usage of my fan? In a previous attempt, I hooked the black to black, white to white, and blue to red and got the opposite result: The fan worked but not the light…How do I get the light and the fan to work?

What does the ceiling fan in the bathroom do with the air it ***** up?
ShaunAverett asked:
I live on the first floor in a 2 story apartment building.
In my toilet, in the ceiling, there is a fan. It has a button that turns it on and off. I’d say that 80% of all bathrooms/toilets in the world have these fans. My question is… where do they lead?? Does the air go up a chimney and out through the roof, or what?

How to tell if a ceiling fan brace is already installed without tearing up the ceiling or going into the attic
jeemmm asked:
I want to install a ceiling fan where I currently have a light. It would be extremely difficult to get to that light from the attic to see if it is braced for a ceiling fan. If I have to I will cut the drywall around the box to see and use a cover but before I do I thought I would ask and see if anyone knew a way to tell without going into the attic or cutting the drywall.

We had a ceiling fan in our dining room that wasnt even working, and when it did would go off balance so bad that we thought it would fall. We want to switch it with a chandelier. So we just want to know what is the easiest way to switch them and is there any information that we should know before doing so? Please help! Thanks!

Installing a ceiling fan in an old house?
Lisa asked:
OK–installing a new ceiling fan. My husband took off the old fan (who knows how old really). There were three wires coming from the ceiling. The three wires are black, white and copper. The ceiling fan has 4 wires coming out of it. Black, blue, white and green. Green’s ground, right? Which wires are which and where do they go? All the expert advice and guidance is much appreciated. If you ask a question, I’ll add more details, so please check back quickly to give me extra advice! THANKS!

Which way should my ceiling fan turn if I have a vaulted/cathedral ceiling?
Merisa asked:
I have a very high vaulted ceiling. The ceiling is like that in the living room and kitchen…which is basically one big room. In the kitchen there is a ceiling fan. With it being winter in here Nebraska I want to keep as much heat in the house as possible! I know heat rises, so should I have my ceiling fan going clockwise or counter clock wise? Or should I leave it off?? Please help!
